Day 314 ~ 322   Canada - Newfoundland

7/31/2017

Newfoundland is awesome. We got some unusually great weather (and a tan!), and caught up with some very good friends from Korea. We went capelin fishing (read more here), went to Shakespeare in the park, drove from St John's on the east coast to Corner Brook on the west, hiked, BBQed, saw some whales, mini-putted, brunched, and cuddled lots of babies and animals. And all as a new Canadian Permanent Resident!

Day 305 ~ 319   The Netherlands - The Hague / Amsterdam

7/15/2017

After arriving at the bus station we found out our bus was leaving from out of town somewhere. So we jumped in a cab and missed it by about 5 minutes. But we got three connecting trains and made it to the Hague earlier than we originally planned.
Our main reason for visiting was to see our friends, and since the museums (and shops and cafes) are closed on Mondays we fit what we could in on the Saturday. We saw the Girl with the Pearl Earring, the Escher Museum and went to a beer festival in Delft.

Amsterdam! Our last stop in Europe. It was a fantastic city to end in. We forked out for a Museum Card, but we didn't spend all our time indoors. (Although, not standing in a 2 hour line outside in the rain for Van Gogh was nice.) We overloaded on cheese at Reypenaer, visited the shelter cats at Poezenboot, dug through piles of antique scientific drawings, and wandered around the red light district trying not to wave at the ladies in the windows.

Yep, you read that right. That was a mighty fine stout for someone who doesn't usually like stout. Read more about the Nederlandse Bieren Festival over here.

Day 300 ~ 305   Germany - Hamburg / Cologne

Unfortunately Dave came down with some kind of stomach flu so we didn't do much at all in Hamburg. We had a look down at the harbour front, St Michaelskirche and ran out of steam at the Town Hall.

After not really seeing Hamburg we made a point of fitting as much as we could into our one day in Cologne. We were quite surprised by the lack of crowds and tours at the famous Dom. I got some more inspiration at the Museum Ludwig and we wandered around the rest of the city, taking cover at a Kölsch joint when the thunderstorms struck.

Day 294 ~ 299   Denmark - Copenhagen / Aarhus

7/2/2017

Our flight to Copenhagen was fairly uneventful. Getting from the airport to our hotel was a lot more complicated, but we eventually made it. The next morning we made our way to our Airbnb downtown. At this point of the trip I'm a little tired of palace residences and renaissance painting. We went to the Glyptotek, Designmuseum and the National Museum and spent the rest of the time wandering around town.

We arrived at a very rainy and windy Aarhus but the sun came out for our one day here. We wandered around the pedestrian streets, and checked out a couple of museums and churches. The highlight was the contemporary art museum which is usually my least favourite kind of art. (Thanks, art school.) We met a local and enjoyed a few adult beverages.
